Journey to Zhangjiajie: Story of the backpack and transportation

I’d like to use this post as an short introduction about my first trip out of Guangdong after 3 working years in Shenzhen.

Zhangjiajie was not the first choice when i made up the travel plan during the mid-autumn festival. Let’s back to one week before the trip, by considering a break time to travel i listed out some places far from shenzhen for my first trip in China out of Guangdong province: Shanghai, Beijing was under good season to visit but then Zhangjiajie and JiuZhaiGou was popup by a friend when i asked him the advice to visit Shanghai. Now the only thing need to consider was the transportation, direct flight with the acceptable price made me picked Zhangjiajie even i had no idea about the place except that it was the place that was based on to make the Avatar. Asked co-worker to help to book the flight then myself booked the first night at a hostel and do some quick google and review the travel forum, first steps was done.
[Tip 1: The less you know about the place the more thing you will see
Means: Don’t believe to everything you read about the destination, let’s say around 60% expectation to whatever wonderful words people told you about it. The number 60 is enough to have the emotion to go there (if 50/50 stay at home for sure) and also leave you some room for your feeling and experience at the places you will visit]

zhangjiajie - Wulingyuan

By three days off of mid-autumn festival and three days PTO combine with the weekend then i have 1 week for my trip. So what then, one person and a backpack with some clothes, medicine, cell phone, camera and money is ready to go. Let’s say “pick the backpack up and fly”

A round trip  from Shenzhen to Zhangjiajie, I did take the flight, train, bus, taxi, enjoy the boat trip, cable car and sightseeing on the motobike taxi.

The day was come, I was already and that was 13th Friday which i did not note until some of my friends spoke out their worry on facebook. So the story seems will be interesting from then.

Left office around 5:30pm to the airport which expectation the metro (train) will direct me to the airport but forget that i need to change the line. Was a sign of 13th Friday, i did stuck in the traffic jam by left the metro and took the taxi, 1 hours in traffic jam, i did think that i will be late (it is not bad luck but total my fault). Only few km to the airport but be stuck in 30 mins without any move on the line, i finally decided to get off the car and i ran to air port. So tired when i arrived the airport, don’t know where to check in then i did another mistake by asking the guider without checking my ticket info. I took me 10 min to run to B platform then back to the A ones. Thirsty, sweaty and so tired made me want to give up but the story could not have a stupid final likes that. I still lucky to catch the last minutes checkin counter, passed the security area and onboard to ZJJ.

Taxi in ZJJ are all without the meter (or they did not want to use), only thing we can do is telling/showing the driver the address then deal the price but the price is acceptable.
[Tip 2: Google or ask the hotel for the info about the price and distance to the places. In ZJJ from airport to Wulingyuan about 120-150 rmb, around Wulingyuan from 5-10rmb, around Fenghuang about 10rmb]

Other kind of taxi that i call “motobike taxi”, they are a lot in ZJJ city so easy to find and take it. I like the feeling to go around the city by the motobike taxi. Seeing the sunset, feel the wind, watching the moon … and the price is cheap (5-10rmb in the city)

If the fight from SZ to ZJJ i almost passed out by a lot of running then the flight back from ZJJ was a nice experience. I did a lot of flight but this was the first time i spent two hours to feel the moon sight, counting the stars (jk) and seeing the city night view. That was a full moon night, i thought that i took the flight to the moon :). The sky was nice, i saw a lot of stars and i was so enjoy it. Not the first time to see the city from the sky at night but this time, the feeling when the plane cross the port to landing so exciting. While the plane are stirring, i just thought it can touch the boats in the port, it was so close to come up with anxious then excited just like when you trying an adventure game.

The trip was so exciting and i’d like to share it to you so see you at next chapters which will include more photos and nice experiences.

Shenzhen – The garden city

It will not fair if i do not mention about Shenzhen in my journey.

It is not the first place that i’ve had visit but it is the place that i’m staying. Three years, and more, if it’s enough for a love. We, Vietnamese, have a word “khi ta ở chỉ là nơi đất ở, khi ta đi đất bỗng hoá tâm hồn” which means that a place is just a place where you stay but it will become a part of your soul when you say goodbye to it. The same thing is happening to me when i’m leaving this city.

Back to three years ago, the first time i’ve arrived to Shenzhen, I did impress not because of the modern constructions but the green of the city, Shenzhen was and is always a garden.  I loved the streets with trees, flowers.

And now, after three years here, i loved my co-workers and friends who be my friends, my teachers. Whatever people says about Chinese, i’m lucky to meet very nice people here.

Of course,  I’d like to share my thoughts about Shenzhen, good or bad, all are the nice memories to me.

Shenzhen, the garden city, wherever you stay, you will easy to find a tree and enjoy its shadow in a sunny day. The green cover the whole city even out there are a lot of high building and modern constructions.

Shenzhen, the city of smiles, whenever whatever wherever you also find it on everybody here.

Shenzhen, the heaven of fake things, where you are very easy to looking for a fake iphone, a fake gucci bag … And even a fake building, you could find here a Great Wall  or the Eiffel Tower …,  which i want to mention are located in the “Splendid China” and “Window of the World” parks .

Shenzhen, the united nation city, you may have chance to meet people not only from all provinces of China but also from other countries in the world who comes to Shenzhen to work or even start their new life.

And a 30 years old city, Shenzhen will impress every one who visit it by the beauty of combination of modern life and the natural, the diversity of cultures and the friendly of the people.

One again, i’d like to say thanks to Shenzhen for your welcome, your care and your smiles. I’ll continue my journey at other city but you, Shenzhen, always a nice stop in my life.
